HRC is committed to supporting the Mental Health of all within our community and is signed up to the AoC Mental Health and Wellbeing Charter.
Below is some advice and links if you or someone you know is struggling with their Mental Health.

Counselling Service at HRC
This is a confidential service that you can refer yourself to. For further information you can log in to Moodle and click on the Student Services Tab and then the Counselling page to complete the confidential referral or email counselling@hrc.ac.uk
Education Mental Health Practitioners from East Hertfordshire Mental Health Support Team
If you are 16-18 years old and experiencing mental health difficulties you can receive early help from special support workers. A member of the Student Welfare Team and Safeguarding Team can make a confidential referral to this service.
Student Assistance Programme
Every student at HRC has access to our Student Assistance Programme. It offers a 24/7 free and confidential helpline- 0800 028 3766.
The programme can support you on a variety of issues:
- Physical and mental wellbeing
- Stress & anxiety
- Debt
- Legal issues
- Relationships
- Addictions
- Education pressures
Our Student Assistance Programme has an app that all students can download it is called Wisdom which can be got from app stores. The activation code is MHA195873. It has lots of advice on Physical health, Mental wellbeing, financial matters and legal issues. You can also use it to contact the 24/7 support team.
Student Welfare Service at HRC
If you need support, help and advice that is confidential, non-judgemental and independent, you can contact your student welfare advisors to arrange an appointment.
Safeguarding at HRC:
Ways you can report concerns you have for yourself or others include:
Moodle:
Please click on the link on Moodle to report bullying, abuse, neglect or personal safety concerns or if you need any other help or support. Your message will be passed on to a member of the Safeguarding Team within Student Services who will respond to you directly to discuss your concerns.
Your Tutor or any other staff:
You can also report your concerns to your Personal Tutor or any member of staff.
If you feel you are in immediate danger you should report your concerns to the police.
IMPORTANT: If you want the safeguarding team to reply to your PERSONAL (non-college) email address, please include the email address in your message.
Anonymously using Whisper:
You can also report a safeguarding concern anonymously via Whisper, text 07860 021 323, at the start of your message enter HRC1 then write your message, we will not be able to see your number but will be able to reply. Click here to complete the anonymous online form.

The Hub of Hope is the UK’s leading mental health support database. It is provided by national mental health charity, Chasing the Stigma, and brings local, national, peer, community, charity, private and NHS mental health support and services together in one place for the first time. Provides online mental health and wellbeing to young people between the ages of 10 and 25. Click here to find out more.

This is a digital service to help support young people it is open 2pm to 10pm and has an instant messaging service as well as a phone service 0208 189 8400. Click here to find out more.
Spectrum Families and Young People’s Services:
Support young people with drug and/or alcohol problems. Click here to find out more.
CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably):
Offer support to people struggling with low mood and suicidal thoughts. Their helpline runs daily from 5pm – midnight on 0800 58 58 58, or you can use their webchat. Click here to find out more.
ChildLine:
Offer free, confidential counselling to under 19’s though their helpline and webchat. Tel: 0800 1111. Click here to find out more.
Cruse Bereavement Support:
A helpline for those who are struggling with bereavement. Open 9.30am-3pm Monday to Friday 0808 808 1677.

Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide:
Offers support through their helpline (HOPEline247) to anyone under 35 years that is having thoughts of suicide or anyone concerned about someone under the age of 35. The helpline is open 24/7 0800 068 4141. Text: 0786 003 9967

Single Point of Access (SPA):
SPA can put you in touch with the relevant NHS mental health service. If you call them they will help to direct you to the service most suited to your needs 0800 6444 101.
The Mix:
Information and support for the under 25s covering a range of topics including mental health. You can use their helpline or webchat from 4pm-11pm Monday to Friday. 0808 808 4994,
Young Carers in Hertfordshire:
Offer practical and emotional support to young people with caring responsibilities. www.ycih.org
Young Minds:
Provides information about all things mental health; from medication to coping strategies: www.youngminds.org.uk
Shout:
