As part of our commitment to our local community, we encourage and organise a wide range of volunteering activities that not only have a meaningful impact on our local area, but also offer our students valuable, real-world experiences that help them to grow both personally and professionally.
Over the past academic year, students from a wide range of our study programmes have taken part in a variety of volunteering projects, including gardening at a local church and care home, litter picking at Lee Valley, working with AGE UK and Isabel Hospice to design and install themed window displays, and continuously supporting staff and residents at Ware Age Concern every week serving hot meals to the residents.

Some of our Construction students played a role in a three-day project repairing 50m of fencing at Clayton Hill in Lee Valley, putting their skills into practice. We’ve also developed a fantastic partnership with Hertfordshire Zoo, where students and staff recently worked together to repaint animal closures, picnic areas, and restore bark and gravel pathways throughout the site.

Looking beyond our local area, students and staff also teamed up with the Marine Conservation Society in Southend to support with cleaning the beach, and supported National Maritime by cleaning up West Mersea Beach in Essex and reporting their findings.

We’re incredibly proud of the way our students and staff continue to give back to the community. Keep an eye out as we share more about our volunteering activities throughout the year ahead across our social media platforms.
