Start dates for this apprenticeship are available throughout the academic year, typically on a monthly basis. Following an application, the apprenticeship team will discuss the next available start date with you.
Autocare Technicians work across the automotive industry, including autocare or fast fit centres, which may be part of a chain or operated by a regional or local independent group or owner.
The main purpose of your role as an apprentice Autocare Technician requires a unique combination of technical, retail and customer service skills. You’ll carry out inspections of cars, car derived vans and light goods vehicles including electric or hydrogen powered vehicles for basic routine maintenance, whilst adhering to environmental and health and safety regulations and procedures.
You’ll have strong communication skills and will use these with internal and external stakeholders when completing activities, such as identifying customer vehicle needs, presenting solutions, completing payment transactions and handling customer disappointment and complaints.
As a HRC student, you’ll also receive excellent support from our tutors, pastoral care, guidance from assessors, access facilities and benefit from our strong employer links.
What will I learn?
You’ll carry out a range of services and repairs by inspecting, removing and replacing components on various vehicle systems using a range of specialist tools, measuring instruments and diagnostic equipment.
You’ll be responsible for contributing to the maintenance of stock levels and replenishment activities when stock deliveries are received.
Entry criteria
Prospective apprentices would typically have already achieved a GCSE (or Level 1 equivalent) at grade 1/E in English and Maths.
How will I be studying?
You’ll typically study through a blend of workshops and face-to-face sessions.
On campus, you’ll benefit from regular classes with an experienced college tutor.
How will I be assessed?
At the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll have a 3-month apprenticeship assessment period.
This will be a practical assessment with questions and an interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.
How many days per week will I be in college?
You will have weekly face-to-face sessions in college with an experienced tutor.
What can I do after this course?
Following this apprenticeship, you could progress on to become a Motor Vehicle Technician or an Automotive Mechanic Technician. You could also pursue further apprenticeships.
Course fees
This course is free to apprentices, as the cost is paid by your employer. Large companies can fund the course using their apprenticeship growth and skills levy. SMEs can access government funding to subsidise the cost by 95%, or 100% depending on the age of the apprentice.
