This is a great opportunity for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities to learn whilst at work. This is more than an introduction to work, it is an opportunity to do a realistic job with the support of an employer and job coach. Learners record their skills and knowledge in an up to date, work ready CV and work diary in preparation for leaving college and moving into an independent or supported adult working life.

What makes the Supported Internship Programme at HRC special?

  • Learners attend college one day a week and work at their placement 1-2 days a week which could increase up to 3 days a week
  • Maths and English sessions are included in the college day timetable
  • The job coach will work one-to-one with the learners and will gradually reduce the level of support as and when it is seen to be appropriate.
  • Work placements are sourced to match learners work interests and existing skills and knowledge
  • We have created strong placement links with local companies who have provided excellent working experiences to our learners.
  • What do our students say?

“I have learned to do things I never thought I could do”

“It has helped me work independently”

“It has helped me extend my independent travel”

“It has helped me build my confidence to get a job in the future”

“I feel better in my life and my appearance”
