Students on this course improve their basic Maths skills to help with their day to day lives and increase future employment and education opportunities.

The topics covered will be commonplace in both work and at home and will provide students with the confidence to complete mathematical problems independently.

On this course, students will cover fractions, percentages, ratios, area, perimeter, volume and converting units of measurement.

Throughout your time on the Functional Skills maths program you can expect to cover topics such as: -Fractions, percentages and ratios – how to calculate a fraction, percentage or ratio of a given quantity.-Area, perimeter and volume, how to calculate the area, perimeter and volume of both common and compound shapes.-Metric units of measure, how to convert between various units of measure and read scales to be able to identify different measures accurately. These topics will be delivered to you over the period of 2 terms, usually over 3 hours per-week.We offer both entry level and level one Functional Skills maths qualifications, which means that there will be something suitable for all.
You will be assessed via two exam papers (Weighted as 75% calculator, 25% non-calculator). You will have a number of opportunities to sit these examinations throughout the academic year.
Basic stationary such as a pen, pencil and ruler.  You will also need a calculator.
On application you will be invited to take an interview and maths assessment. This will allow our Tutors to assess your current level and will indicate if you are suitable for the course or if an alternative maths programme may initially be required.If you’d like help understanding our entry requirements, give our Information Team a call on 01992 411411
This course is free to enrol onto, however there is a ยฃ10 fee to cover the cost of any exercise and text books.
