This focused pathway enables you to complete Unit 3 and develop the leadership skills needed to plan, allocate and monitor internal quality assurance activity within your area of responsibility.

Course delivery: This is a focused Unit 3 bolt-on route for learners eligible to RPL Units 1 and 2. Delivery is part-time through online and blended learning, with the current HRC Level 4 IQA course information listing the next cohort as starting on 7 September 2026 at Broxbourne Campus.

Unit 01 – Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment.
Recognition of Prior Learning will be used where applicants can provide valid evidence of prior achievement or equivalent competence for this unit.

Unit 02 – Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment.
Recognition of Prior Learning will be used where applicants can provide valid evidence of prior achievement or equivalent competence for this unit.

Unit 03 – Plan, Allocate and Monitor Work in Own Area of Responsibility.
This bolt-on route focuses on Unit 3 only, developing your ability to lead and manage internal quality assurance activity by planning, allocating and monitoring work within your area of responsibility.

Aligned to NCFE requirements, this bolt-on certificate route supports learners who have already completed, or can evidence through RPL, the required IQA knowledge and practice units. The focus is on developing leadership competence through Unit 3, including planning work, allocating responsibilities, monitoring progress and supporting quality improvement across your area of responsibility.

On successful completion, you will have completed the additional leadership unit required for the NCFE Level 4 Certificate, strengthening your ability to lead internal quality assurance activity and support effective assessment practice across a centre or organisation.

Throughout this Unit 3 bolt-on route, you will develop the leadership practice needed to:

  • Plan work within your own area of responsibility
  • Allocate work effectively and appropriately
  • Monitor the progress and quality of work
  • Support team members and assessors to meet agreed objectives
  • Review outcomes and contribute to continuous improvement
  • Build a Unit 3 portfolio of evidence in line with NCFE assessment and quality assurance requirements
Assessment is completed through an internally assessed and externally quality assured portfolio for Unit 3. Units 1 and 2 will be considered through Recognition of Prior Learning, subject to applicants providing valid, sufficient and authentic evidence of prior achievement or equivalent competence.
  • Laptop
  • Notebook and pen
  • Completion of a pre-assessment form with the IQA Assessor-Trainer
  • Attendance at an interview with the IQA Assessor-Trainer through Teams
  • Evidence of prior achievement or equivalent competence for Units 1 and 2 to support Recognition of Prior Learning
  • Applicants must have access to suitable IQA or quality assurance responsibilities that allow them to plan, allocate and monitor work within their area of responsibility.

This bolt-on route is suitable for practitioners who have already completed the Level 4 IQA Award, or who can evidence equivalent achievement for Units 1 and 2, and now want to complete Unit 3 to achieve the full NCFE Level 4 Certificate pathway.

Fee information for the Unit 3 bolt-on route will be confirmed following RPL review and confirmation of individual assessment needs.
