Learn creative skills and perform in our state-of-the-art Michael Morpurgo Theatre at our Broxbourne campus. With professional dance studios, a recording and TV studio, plus tutors with industry experience, you’ll learn the skills of the trade in preparation for your career. Our 140-seat performance theatre, will allow you to showcase your talents with the help of the latest lighting and sound technology.

Many of our learners stay on with us to carry on their training due to our exciting HND programme of study as well as a BA Hons Top up course credited from UH. Other learners have successfully auditioned to LMA, East 15, UEL, Middlesex, St Marys, Bedfordshire, Leeds, South Bank, Chichester to name a few
This is a 2 year course that is the same level as A’ Level and is suited to those learners with experience in performing arts and have successfully achieved many of their GCSEs including English. During the first year you will further develop your already existing knowledge in the performing and production arts industry. You will explore a variety of different practitioners such as Stanislavski, Brecht, Artaud, Frantic Assembly, Laban, Meyerhold, Strasberg to name a few. These practitioners will be explored through many projects such as classical and contemporary theatre, musical theatre and acting for camera. Within each project you will explore the health and safety aspects and production elements required. You will learn how to plan, plot and operate lights for a peers performance as well as many other back stage roles such as stage manager, costume designer, director, script writer and choreographer to name a few. Throughout the year you will develop your techniques in acting, singing and dance โ€“ styles such as musical theatre, ballet and contemporary. The year will be completed by successfully auditioning, planning, rehearsing and performing a large scale production โ€“ this could be a play, physical theatre or musical theatre style In year 2 you will collaborate with our HND โ€“ HE learners – with their yearly Panto production. You will audition for a role as well as being part of the ensemble cast where dance and singing skills will be explored and developed in the panto style of performing. With support from tutors, you will complete UCAS application form to universities and colleges in order for you to develop your training and skills to help you gain employment in the industry. You will take on a more formal writing essay style project in order to help progression onto HE and to research a chosen topic for your final major performance. Your final production is self elected and can be anything you desire or possibly linking to your progression routes such as a short film, comedy acting, musical theatre, radio play, musical theatre, devised piece, scripted piece
There’s lots of perks to this course, including:Participating in professional workshops and watching live professional performances both locally and in LondonLearning vital employability skills such as CV writing, audition techniques and how to present as a professional in the industry
You will be assessed through a mixture of practical performances and course work which will consist of research, context, reflective journey logs and evaluating yourself and others.
To take on this course you will need:
  • 5 GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above or a Level 2 at Merit level
  • To attend an interview/ creative workshop to assess your skills and interests

Free to Home students under 19 on 31st August 2023. If you are a Home student aged 19 or over on the 31st August 2023, you may be liable to pay approximately ยฃ2,500 tuition fee for a Level 2 qualification and approximately ยฃ5,000 for a Level 3 qualification (these were the tuition fees for 2022/2023 and could be subject to change for 2023/2024).If you are aged 19-23 you may also be entitled to free tuition if the course you choose is on a government-approved list and the qualification is your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.If you are aged over 24 and you have not achieved a full Level 3 qualification you may be entitled to free tuition if the qualification is listed on the Government Free courses for jobs list. Similarly, if you already hold a Level 3 qualification (or above) and meet the Adult Education Budgets definition of unemployed or are in receipt of low wage, you may also be entitled to free tuition.You may also be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable.
