The Level 3 Music course is designed to provide students with the fundamental skills needed to be successful within the music industry. You will have the opportunity to specialise within a performance and/or production discipline through learning the essential skills required. The course offers students opportunities to refine their skillset before progressing to year two where you will explore how these skills can be applied to your own brand and audience.

Here at Broxbourne, you will have access to our large recording live room with Tascam console and a selection of microphones. There are three equipped rooms that include backline, film studio and a mac suite with Logic Pro as well as a theatre for showcases alongside external opportuities.

Entry Requirements

To take on this course you will need:

    5 GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above or a Level 2 at Merit level (Including English)

    To attend an interview to assess your skills and interests, bringing an example     of your music work such as a video, recording or even perform a short piece

We also welcome applications from students with relevant experience or qualifications.

You will participate in classes that will develop and enhance your skills in a variety of areas such as playing an instrument, vocal technique, performing to an audience, studio recording, mixing and mastering audio, song writing and composition, critical song analysis, project research and skills development and group work.

 

You will be assessed through a mixture of practical and supporting coursework which will consist of research, context, reflective blogs and evaluation.

There is a small cost for essential course equipment, and for optional trips that take place during the year. The cost for equipment is not expected to exceed £90, and financial support is available if required.We would recommend bringing some over ear headphones and hearing protection along.

Free to Home students under 19 on 31st August 2026.
 
If you are a Home student aged 19 or over on the 31st August 2026, you may be liable to pay approximately £2,500 tuition fee for a Level 2 qualification and approximately £5,000 for a Level 3 qualification (these were the tuition fees for 2025/2026 and could be subject to change for 2026/2027).

If you are aged 19-23 you may also be entitled to free tuition if the course you choose is on a government-approved list and the qualification is your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.

If you are aged over 24 and you have not achieved a full Level 3 qualification you may be entitled to free tuition if the qualification is listed on the Government Free courses for jobs list. Similarly, if you already hold a Level 3 qualification (or above) and meet the Adult Education Budgets definition of unemployed or are in receipt of low wage, you may also be entitled to free tuition.

You may also be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable.

There’s lots of perks to this course, including:

  • Participating in professional workshops and watching live professional performances
  • Opportunity to use the facilities outside of sessions for rehearsal/production if pre-booked
  • Learning vital employability skills such as team collaboration and how to present as a professional in the industry.

After you have successfully completed this course you can choose to:

  • Take on our Music Higher National Diploma
  • Apply for a degree at a university (after successful completion of a second year)
  • Enter into employment in this industry
