VTCT SKILLS LEVEL 3 NVQ DIPLOMA IN BARBERING

Level 3 Advanced Barbering is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform your own salon services and support others. The course is suitable for those wishing to gain the necessary skills to run their own business or work as a qualified barber.

Learners who successfully complete this qualification are eligible to become a State Registered Barber (SRB) with The Barber Council.

What will I be doing?

This is a one-year programme that will enable you to develop the skills essential for employment in the Barbering industry, working in a barber’s or hairdresser’s and all other aspects of the barbering industry. This qualification will provide you with the requisite knowledge, understanding and skills to work competently as a barber. Throughout this qualification you will provide client consultation services, creatively cut hair using a combination of barbering techniques, design and create a range of facial hair shapes and provide shaving services.

How will I be assessed?

You will be expected to gather evidence of both the practical skills and underpinning knowledge for each unit you study and create a ‘portfolio of evidence’ for the qualification.

What do I need to bring?

There are some items you will need to purchase in advance of the course which you should expect to replace as and when you need to during the year.

You will need to purchase personal stationery. Kit is ordered and purchased by students. Kits are non-refundable once the course starts.

For students progressing from within the department, previous kit items could be appropriate but additional items may need to be purchased (depending on previous course).

Payment for optional enrichment activities are detailed throughout the year.

Entry Requirements

Level 2 Barbering qualification for progression learners.
Ideally Grade 4 Maths and Grade 4 English, but not essential.
To demonstrate good attendance and timekeeping, the ability to meet deadlines and have excellent skills development.
To have a creative flair, a genuine interest in the barbering industry, good personal presentation, and communication skills.

We welcome applicants who are already working in the industry and are looking to gain a new qualification.

Fee information

Free to Home students under 19 on 31st August.

If you are a Home student aged 19 or over on the 31st August, you may be liable to pay approximately £2,000 tuition fee for a Level 2 qualification and approximately £5,500 for a Level 3 qualification.

If you are aged 19-23 you may also be entitled to free tuition if the course you choose is on a government-approved list and the qualification is your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.

If you are aged over 24 and you have not achieved a full Level 3 qualification you may be entitled to free tuition if the qualification is listed on the Government Free courses for jobs list. Similarly, if you already hold a Level 3 qualification (or above) and meet the Adult Education Budgets definition of unemployed or are in receipt of low wage, you may also be entitled to free tuition.

You may also be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable.

Added Extras

Already working in the barbering industry but do not yet hold a formal qualification? This is the perfect opportunity for experienced barbers to gain recognition for their skills. You may be able to go straight to the Level 3 qualification—skipping Level 2—by completing a skills assessment. Get certified, enhance your career prospects, and take your barbering expertise to the next level.

What can I do next?

This is an approved qualification for working as a barber. It also provides a sound platform for further learning or training.
