Take the next step in your professional development and become a confident, competent assessor. This 15-week, part-time NCFE qualification is designed for practitioners who assess occupational competence within a real work environment and want to gain a nationally recognised Level 3 assessor qualification.

Course delivery: Two cohorts are available: Cohort 1 starts in September 2026 and Cohort 2 starts in January 2027.

Unit 01 โ€“ Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment.
This unit assesses a candidate assessor’s knowledge of the principles and practices of assessment in a learning and development context.

Unit 02 โ€“ Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment
This unit assesses a candidate assessor’s competence in assessing the occupational competence of others.

Aligned to NCFE requirements, this award supports you to develop the knowledge, skills and professional confidence needed to plan, carry out and quality assure assessment decisions. You will build a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your ability to assess learners fairly, accurately and consistently in line with recognised assessment practice.

On successful completion, you will be fully equipped to assess learners within your own vocational area or subject specialism, supporting progression, achievement and excellence in professional practice.

Throughout the course, you will develop the essential skills and techniques required to become an effective assessor, including how to:

  • Plan and deliver assessment opportunities for learners to demonstrate achievement of competence
  • Use a variety of assessment methods to support judgements on learner achievement
  • Develop skills of paper-based and e-portfolio building and sequencing of evidence
  • Develop communication and inter-personal skills
  • Develop an awareness of their professional role and responsibilities
Assessment is completed through an internally assessed and externally quality assured portfolio of evidence. You will be supported through training sessions, progress reviews and professional feedback as you gather evidence from real assessment practice in the workplace.
  • A copy of the recommended course textbook

  • A4 Ring binder folder
  • Five section coloured dividers
  • Post-it notes
  • Completion of a pre-assessment form
  • Completion of a Century Tech diagnostic assessment
  • All applicants must have access to two learners to support the assessment requirements of the qualification.

 

The course fee is ยฃ650.00 for the academic year 2026-2027

  • Achieve the full certificate by completing Unit 303 โ€“ Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement
  • Progress onto the L4 Internal Quality Assurer Award
