Learn creative skills and perform in our state-of-the-art Michael Morpurgo Theatre at our Broxbourne campus. With professional dance studios, a recording and TV studio, plus tutors with industry experience, you’ll learn the skills of the trade in preparation for your career. Our 140-seat performance theatre will allow you to showcase your talents with the help of the latest lighting and sound technology.

This is a one year course to help develop confidence within the performing arts industry. This course is ideally for those who have a little experience in performing arts or those who have not met the criteria to study at level 3.The course will give you basic introduction to different performance styles and skills as well as health and safety and production elements. You will develop these skills through projects such as classical and contemporary theatre, physical and musical theatre. Some practitioners may include Brecht, Artaud, Stanislavski and Butoh techniques. You will have technique classes in movement, acting and singing.
Projects completed every 6 weeks that will have an element of performance activity to a live audience in our theatre space as well as evidencing your learning through written and presentation skills. You will complete the course by planning, producing and performing in a large scale performance.
Learners need to have a notebook and pensLearners need to wear black base such as t shirt leggings, jogging bottomsIdeally learners would have black jazz shoes Trips and performing arts hoodies/tops will be paid for as and when during the course if learners would like
To take on this course you will need:
  • 4 GCSE’s at Grade D/3 or a Level 1 at Merit grade
  • To attend an interview/creative workshop to assess your skills and interests

Free to Home students under 19 on 31st August 2025. If you are a Home student aged 19 or over on the 31st August 2025, you may be liable to pay approximately ยฃ2,500 tuition fee for a Level 2 qualification and approximately ยฃ5,000 for a Level 3 qualification (these were the tuition fees for 2025/2026 and could be subject to change for 2025/2026).If you are aged 19-23 you may also be entitled to free tuition if the course you choose is on a government-approved list and the qualification is your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.If you are aged over 24 and you have not achieved a full Level 3 qualification you may be entitled to free tuition if the qualification is listed on the Government Free courses for jobs list. Similarly, if you already hold a Level 3 qualification (or above) and meet the Adult Education Budgets definition of unemployed or are in receipt of low wage, you may also be entitled to free tuition.You may also be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable.
Participating in professional workshops and watching live professional performances both locally and in London.Learning vital employability skills such as CV writing, audition techniques and how to present as a professional in the industry.
After you have successfully completed this course, you can choose to take on our Performing Arts Level 3 course.
