This qualification is intended for those students wishing to pursue a career in an electrical engineering pathway”. This course will provide learners with an entry point into the industry and may give them the opportunity to progress onto the level 2 qualifications.

The course consists of 7 mandatory units of study which will include a mixture of both theory and practical units.

You will follow an integrated programme with theory and practical lessons with a strong practical emphasis covering the following 7 areas:
  • Structure of the construction industry
  • Fundamental safe working practices
  • Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
  • Site preparation for working in the construction industry
  • Electrical installation wiring and terminations
  • Fabrication techniques for electrical installation
  • Electrical science and technology
You will undergo various theory and practical assessments between 4-6 weeks including and initial assessment/diagnostic of your current English and maths levels to determine whether you are suitable for the Level 1 programme.Throughout the induction period and during the remainder of the year you will be monitored and will be expected to show good, regular attendance, excellent behaviour, conduct and overall progression in all areas of study.The assessments will be a combination of various practical taks, short answer written questions, multi-choice questions, producing circuit and wiring drawings and knowledge assignments.
When working in the practical workshops Personal Protective footwear and overalls will be required at all times. The general classroom equipment that is required should include a pencil case with writing pens, pencils, coloured pencils and pens, scientific calculator, ruler, set square, protractor, compass, notepad with lined and plain paper together with an A4 folder.
  • Studying towards achieving a grade 4 in GCSE Maths and English
  • You will need to show a keen interest in electrical installation work and a motivation and willingness to study and achieve in all areas of the programme of study
  • You will undergo an initial assessment in English and Maths to determine the areas of improvement required to help you achieve your programme of study
  • During the induction programme lasting between 4-6 weeks, you will undergo various theory and practical assessments to determine whether you are suitable for this Level 1 course. Throughout the induction period and during the remainder of the year you will be expected to show good, regular attendance, excellent behaviour, conduct and overall progression in all areas of study.
Free to those under 19 on 31st August 2018. If you are 19 or over on 31st August 2018, have been a permanent resident in the EU for the last 3 years and are a fee paying new entrant, you will pay approx. ยฃ1500 tuition fee for a Level 2 qualification and approx. ยฃ3000 for a Level 3 qualification (these were the fees for 2017/18 and could be subject to change for 2018/19). Fee paying students continuing on the same course for a second year will be charged ยฃ1500 tuition fee for a Level 2 qualification and approx. ยฃ3000 for a Level 3 qualification (these were the fees for 2017/8 and could be subject to change for 2018/19). If you are aged 19-23 you may also be entitled to free training if the course you choose is your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.You may also be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable. As part of a Programme of Study and depending on your prior achievement you will be required to further study and re-sit GCSE English and/or maths to obtain a 4-9 grade. You will also be expected to attend planned individual/group tutorial lessons, compelte independant self study, complete an additional work experience CSCS qualification and a number of relevant work experience hours during the academic year.
When you have successfully completed this course, you will have gained a nationally recognised qualification, developed your personal skills and have opportunities to progress onto a level 2 Programme of Study or an Apprenticeship course.
