The VTCT Diploma in Beauty Therapy Level 1 provides students with foundational skills and knowledge of the beauty industry, specifically focusing on practical techniques. This qualification is designed to equip students with essential skills that can be immediately applied in real-world beauty therapy settings. By covering units such as; basic manicure and pedicure services, skin care advice, and day make-up application, the qualification ensures that students develop a well-rounded understanding of beauty therapy services.

This course has been introduced this academic year (2025/26) to serve as a direct stepping stone for those wishing to pursue further studies in beauty therapy if they have not met the entry requirements for Level 2 Beauty Therapy.

This Level 1 provision in Beauty Therapy is designed to provide extra support for students with special educational needs and/or social, emotional, and mental health difficulties by offering a tailored, inclusive approach to learning. This qualification provides a foundation for these students to develop practical skills in beauty therapy while receiving the care, time, and guidance needed to progress at their own pace. By offering clear pathways into the beauty sector, the program helps build confidence and competence, laying the groundwork for students to continue advancing to higher levels of learning when they are ready.

Your theory and practical knowledge will be assessed throughout the year by your tutors, in preparation for your practical assessment to be completed on clients.The theoretical knowledge will be delivered in class, with an opportunity to expand this with independent study.  Online tests will be completed after every unit.All units have written elements to be completed and presented in a professional way.
There are some items you will need to purchase in advance of the course which you should expect to replace as and when you need to during the year.You will need to purchase personal stationery. Kit and uniform are purchased by students from our third part suppliers. There are no formal prerequisite qualifications that you must have prior to undertaking this qualification.
Free to Home students under 19 on 31st August 2025.If you are a Home student aged 19 or over on the 31st August 2025, you may be liable to pay approximately £2,500 tuition fee for a Level 2 qualification and approximately £5,000 for a Level 3 qualification (these were the tuition fees for 2022/2023 and could be subject to change for 2025/2025).If you are aged 19-23 you may also be entitled to free tuition if the course you choose is on a government-approved list and the qualification is your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.If you are aged over 24 and you have not achieved a full Level 3 qualification you may be entitled to free tuition if the qualification is listed on the Government Free courses for jobs list. Similarly, if you already hold a Level 3 qualification (or above) and meet the Adult Education Budgets definition of unemployed or are in receipt of low wage, you may also be entitled to free tuition.You may also be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable.
Students can complete their placement within our Hair and Beauty Department at Inspires Salon, where they gain valuable hands-on experience in a realistic working environment. Inspires Salon serves the local community and surrounding areas, providing a professional setting for students to work with real clients. Level 1 students are involved in supporting the reception and technician teams with day-to-day activities, helping to develop their skills in client interaction, team collaboration, and salon operations. This placement ensures students are well-prepared for future employment in the hair and beauty industry.  Trips and short courses are run throughout the academic year, giving students a choice to take part in enrichment activities such as Thorpe Park and STUDEX Ear Piercing.
Progress to a Level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy or other level 2 course – subject to entry requirements. Alternatively, students can sidestep onto another Level 1 course: Level 1 Certificate in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector, choosing a pathway in Hair & Barbering or Hair & Media Make-Up.
