The UAL Level 1 Award in Art & Design introduces learners to the exciting world of creativity through a range of hands-on, practical activities. Throughout the course, students will explore, develop, and apply essential artistic and design skills while building the confidence and personal attributes needed for future study or employment.

Ideal for learners seeking a fresh start or a first step into the creative industries, this qualification supports progression onto the UAL Level 1 Diploma in Art & Design. The course encourages creativity, communication, and problem-solving, helping students develop valuable transferable skills that will support their lifelong personal and professional growth.

Students on the UAL Level 1 Award in Art & Design will explore a range of creative materials and processes across 2D, 3D and time-based media. Over the year, they will work through two structured units that introduce and develop core creative skills. Learners will experiment, research, record ideas and refine practical work through guided workshops and projects. The course concludes with a self-directed Final Major Project, which is showcased in a final exhibition, celebrating students’ progress and achievements.
Your coursework will be assessed continuously throughout the year. You will receive regular feedback on your practical work, sketchbooks, research, and reflections. This feedback is designed to help you understand your strengths, identify areas for development, and improve your work as you progress through each unit. At the end of the course, you will complete a Final Major Project
