Students will be introduced to the basics of drafting a bodice pattern from scratch and constructing a toile with finished hem and facing(s).  The pattern will function as a template for future pattern drafting and will include drafting a sleeve for more intermediate learners.

Dependent on ability, students can progress on to creating a final garment in a fabric of their choice.

Please bring a note/sketch book and pencils to the first session. Pins, dressmaking shears, PatternMaster, and tailors chalk are desirable but not essential.  Students will need to provide fabric if progressing on to create a finished garment.The course takes place in our fashion studios with access to industrial and domestic sewing machines, with advantages that both machines offer. It is useful but not essential to have access to a sewing machine at home.               
There are no formal entry requirements, beginners welcome.
ยฃ160 for the 10 week block.Pattern paper, card and midweight calico are included in the course fee.

On completion of this course you could progress on to our Intermediate Pattern Cutting short course.Alternatively, our Dressmaking for Beginners short course is ideal for anyone wishing to learn how to make garments from commercial patterns.

This course is scheduled on a Thursday evening, 19:00 – 21:00, at our Ware Campus.

This course is suitable for adults and students aged 16+ (school year 12 and above).

Once your booking/payment has been processed on our system, you will receive an email confirming your booking (please allow 3-5 working days for this).

The Department will contact you via email with start-up instructions approximately 1 week before the start of the course.

All our Art & Design short courses and workshops run subject to reaching minimum numbers.  In the event we are unable to run the course/workshop you are booked on to, you will be offered a space on an alternative course or a full refund of the course fee.

We endeavour to remove our courses from the website once they are full, in the unlikely event you are able pay for a course/workshop that is full, you will be offered a space on an alternative course or a full refund of the course fee.
