This course covers all the skills involved in making a garment from a commercial pattern including putting in a zip, waistbands and pockets. Students will be required to buy a pattern and fabric for either a skirt or a pair of trousers. Advice on the style of patterns and fabric will be given in the first session by a well-qualified and experienced tutor.

You will be given guidance on purchasing a simple pattern, fabric and basic equipment during the first class. This can cost anything between ยฃ30 and ยฃ80.  The course takes place in our fashion studios with access to industrial and domestic sewing machines, with advantages that both machines offer. It is useful but not essential to have access to a sewing machine at home.
There are no entry requirements. All abilities welcome. You may enrol each term to repeat and recap skills.
ยฃ135 for each of the 10 week blocks.

Our Introduction to Pattern Cutting short course is ideal for anyone wanting to develop their pattern cutting skills and learn how to draft their own patterns and blocks from scratch.

This course is scheduled on a Tuesday evening, 19:00 – 21:00, at our Ware Campus.

All our Art & Design Short Courses are for aged 18+ unless otherwise specified.

Once your booking/payment has been processed on our system, you will receive an email confirming your booking (please allow 3-5 working days for this).

The Department will contact you via email with start-up instructions approximately 1 week before the start of the course.

Please monitor your junk mail for emails from us as we are aware some of our system generated emails can end up there.

All our Art & Design short courses and workshops run subject to reaching minimum numbers.  In the event we are unable to run the course/workshop you are booked on to, you will be offered a space on an alternative course or a full refund of the course fee.

We endeavour to remove our courses from the website once they are full, in the unlikely event you are able pay for a course/workshop that is full, you will be offered a space on an alternative course or a full refund of the course fee.
