This qualification provides learners with an understanding of the knowledge needed when working directly with children and young people in a school or college environment. The qualification covers elements including children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare, and communication and professional relationships.

To gain this qualification, learners must achieve all units.  Learners will attend face to face teaching sessions providing underpinning knowledge for units including:

  • Schools and Colleges as Organisations
  • Support health and safety in a learning environment
  • Understand how to safeguard children and young people
  • Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  • Understand children and young people’s development
  • Support positive behaviour in children and young people
  • Support children and young people during learning activities
  • Support English and maths skills
  • Support the use of ICT in the learning environment
  • Support assessment for learning
  • Engage in personal and professional development

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods.

Knowledge based outcomes can be assessed using assessment tasks set on a weekly basis.

Skills based outcomes must be achieved with reference to ‘real’ work environment and must include direct observation within the workplace.

Learners will need access to a laptop.

Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on a practical placement.  This is an important part of the assessment process that involves evaluating skills in ‘real’ working situations including supporting literacy. numeracy, outside learning and use of ICT.

Learners must have a paid or voluntary role in a school or college setting for at least 12 hours per week.

Learners will need to be able to use spoken and written English accurately.

The fee for this course is ยฃ1417.00

Learners  may also be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable.

You will be assigned your own personal Assessor who will support you with gathering evidence to support the assessment of your work.

Learners can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning or into the workforce.
