Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship (Level 3)

Teaching Assistants support the class teacher to enhance learners’ progress and development, either in groups or individually. This apprenticeship is a great for individuals within your workforce to take the next steps towards becoming qualified.
As an apprentice Teaching Assistant, they’ll ensure that learners understand their work, know their learning objectives and display positive learning behaviours in order to make progress. This includes, but is not limited to, supporting high attaining, SEND, disadvantaged learners and learners of whom English is not their first language.
Start dates are available throughout the year.
Skills Gained
Under the direction and supervision of a qualified teacher, they will learn how to:
- Deliver individual and small group teaching
- Implement safeguarding policies and safe practice
- Work effectively with other education professionals
- Promote positive learning behaviours
- Support the development of a safe and stimulating learning environment
They will work within a framework of national legislation regarding safeguarding, and within the policies and procedures set out by you, the employer.
Training Structure & Time Commitments
Learners will typically study through a blend of workshops and face-to-face sessions.
On campus, they’ll benefit from regular classes with an experienced college tutor.
Candidate Suitability
Prospective apprentices would typically have already achieved a GCSE (or Level 2 equivalent) at grade 4/C in English and Maths.
Assessment Method
Learners have a 3-month apprenticeship assessment period.
This will include a multiple-choice test, a practial assessment with questions, and an interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.
Progression
Upon successful completion, learners can progress on to become an Assistant Teacher, or pursue further higher level teaching assistant or teacher training apprenticeships or pathways.
Funding & Costs
If you’re a large company, you can fund the course using your apprenticeship levy. SMEs can access government funding to subsidise the cost by 95%, or 100% depending on the age of the apprentice. To find out more click here.
