Construction apprenticeships are a cost-effective way to develop skilled workers and strengthen your workforce.
By combining practical on-site experience with structured training, apprentices develop the technical knowledge and hands-on skills needed across a wide range of construction trades. Bricklayer Apprenticeship (Level 2)

This apprenticeship is at Level 2 – equivalent to GCSEs – and will equip apprentices with skills and knowledge that can be directly applied in their roles.
It delivers a solid foundation, training learners to create a high-quality product which meets standards, specifications and design plans. They’ll develop the skills to take on a range of projects, from the repair of a garden wall to new build housing and large-scale commercial projects such as office blocks, hospitals and retail developments.
They’ll expected to do this with due regard to all safety aspects involved with working on a construction site, ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and others at all times. With sustainable construction at the forefront of all projects, it is expected they would give consideration to the environment and sustainability of materials, waste awareness and recycling.
Start dates are available throughout the year.
Skills Gained
Apprentices will learn how to utilise modern methods of construction and premanufactured elements to construct walls, carry out simple setting out, prepare mortar and use a trowel to lay bricks, mortar and apply damp-proof materials to complete the project to specification and required design.
They’ll use spirit levels and plumb lines to check building alignment and use hammers and chisels to shape and trim bricks and blocks. They’ll typically work outdoors on construction sites, in most weathers and at height.
Training Structure & Time Commitments
Students will have weekly face-to-face sessions in college with an experienced tutor.
Candidate Suitability
Prospective apprentices would typically have already achieved a GCSE (or Level 1 equivalent) at grade 1/E in English and Maths.
Assessment Method
Learners have a 3-month apprenticeship assessment period.
This will include a multiple-choice test, a practial assessment with questions, and an interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.
Progression
On successful completion of this course, learners can progress on to become a Bricklayer, Mason, Multi‑skilled Operative, take on advanced craft or supervisory roles, or pursue further apprenticeships.

Craft Bricklayer Apprenticeship (Level 3)

This apprenticeship is at Level 3 – equivalent to A Levels – and will equip apprentices with skills and knowledge that can be directly applied in their roles.
It trains learners to create a high-quality product which meets standards, specifications and design plans. They’ll create a range of specialist features, from arches and chimneys for a domestic customer to the repair of a listed building to a large-scale commercial project utilising multiple facework types, techniques and materials.
They’ll expected to do this with due regard to all safety aspects involved with working on a construction site, ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and others at all times. With sustainable construction at the forefront of all projects, it is expected they would give consideration to the environment and sustainability of materials, waste awareness and recycling.
Start dates are available throughout the year.
Skills Gained
Apprentices will learn how to set out and lay bricks, brick specials, blocks and other materials to construct and repair complex walls and features such as chimneys, battered, angled, radial and decorative masonry work.
They’ll plan and organise the work site, both for yourself and others, and verify the quality of the work of others within their team.
They’ll become a technical expert, providing direction and advice to others and advise on work approach and problem solving.

Candidate Suitability
Prospective apprentices would typically have already achieved a GCSE (or Level 1 equivalent) at grade 1/E in English and Maths.

Progression

Carpentry & Joinery Apprenticeship (Level 2)

This apprenticeship is at Level 2 – equivalent to GCSEs – and will equip apprentices with skills and knowledge that can be directly applied in their roles.
This apprenticeship will prepare apprentices for junior and entry-level carpentry roles. It delivers a solid foundation, covering using machinery and tools under supervision to create structures or components from the designs, plans and specifications of architects and designers that meet the clients expectations. On site these could include roof structures, floors, partitions and second fix work such as door frames and skirting. As an architectural joiner, they could include doors, windows and stairs, including ironmongery.

Skills Gained
Apprentices will either work on a construction site as a Site Carpenter or in a workshop as an Architectural Joiner.
A Site Carpenter prepares and installs basic building components e.g. doors, straight staircases, wall and floor units and erecting structural carpentry and roof structures on a building site or in domestic and commercial premises.
An Architectural Joiner creates building components by setting out, marking out and manufacturing basic architectural products, including doors, windows, straight staircases and associated ironmongery.

Learners typically study through a blend of workshops and face-to-face sessions.
On campus, they’ll benefit from regular classes with an experienced college tutor.

Interior Systems Installer (Drylining) Apprenticeship (Level 2)

This apprenticeship is at Level 2 – equivalent to GCSEs – and will equip apprentices with skills and knowledge that can be directly applied in their roles.
They’ll learn how to install different drylining systems that form the walls and rooms within a building, often used to hide wires and pipes whilst improving acoustics and create space for insulation.

Skills Gained
Apprentices will learn how to install and repair metal stud partitions, framed wall linings, plywood, and pattresses in accordance with design details, specification, and manufacturers instructions.
They’ll also form framed and frameless beam and column, builders work holes and openings for windows and doors, junctions, abutments, and angles. They’ll responsibly recycle waste to contribute to zero/low carbon outcomes in the built environment.

Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship (Level 2)

This apprenticeship is at Level 2 – equivalent to GCSEs – and will equip apprentices with skills and knowledge that can be directly applied in their roles.
Properties across numerous industries and sectors require maintenance to keep them in a safe working condition, and to optimise their quality or performance.
Apprentices will conduct the general day-to-day maintenance required to keep a range of properties in a good state of repair. They’ll conduct routine maintenance tasks, and minor planned and responsive repair works, maintaining the highest level of quality whilst considering sustainability and environmental choices, and will record and report information collected using a range of techniques.
Start dates are available throughout the year.
Skills Gained
Apprentices will learn a broad range of trade skills, including carpentry, joinery, plumbing, plastering, brick and block work, as well as external tiling, painting and decorating. They’ll use a variety of hand and power tools, materials, components, fixtures and fittings to carry out theit work in compliance with health and safety requirements and buildings safety regulations and legislations.
They’ll learn and understand the key principles of buildings and their construction, the range of building services that support a buildings operation, including electrical, plumbing, plant, safety systems and equipment, the techniques and processes to prevent damage.
