Supported Devices

To help keep our college community safe from cyber-attacks, some security settings are in place for personal devices.

If your personal phone, tablet, or laptop is running old software that is no longer receiving security updates, you will be automatically blocked from accessing your college email, Teams, OneDrive and other available resources on campus or from home/remote location on that device.

Is your device ready?

To ensure you can still log in, your personal devices must be updated to at least the following versions:

  • iPhones: You must be on iOS 18 or higher
  • iPads: You must be on iPadOS 18 or higher
  • Android Phones/tablets: You must be on Android 14 or higher
  • Apple Macs: You must be on macOS Sonoma, Sequoia, or Tahoe  or higher
  • Windows laptops: You must be using Windows 11

Keeping your device secure

To help protect your account and the college’s systems, your device must have the latest available security updates installed.

Devices that are missing important security updates, or no longer receive security updates from the manufacturer, may be blocked from accessing college resources until they meet the required security standards.

How to check your device

  • iPhones/iPads: Go to Settings > General > About
  • Android Phones: Go to Settings > About Phone
  • Apple Macs: Click the Apple icon (top left) and choose About This Mac
  • Windows Laptops: Click the Start button, type “About your PC”, and press Enter

What if my device is too old to update?

If your personal device cannot be updated to the versions listed above, you will need to use a HRC desktop or laptop to access your college work.

Can my unsupported personal device still be used for MFA?

Yes. You will still be able to run the Microsoft Authenticator app for MFA.

Why do we do this?

Using out-of-date software can make devices more vulnerable to security risks and put your passwords and personal information at risk. Keeping your device up to date helps protect your data and supports the security of the College.
