This Level 4 qualification aims to provide professional development opportunities for practitioners in the school and college workforce.  It is designed by the awarding body to enhance your skills, knowledge and expertise, enabling you to excel in your role and make meaningful contributions to teaching and learning environments.

The course content is provided over 21 weeks and is delivered on a face-to-face basis, during the daytime, for 3 hours per week, with assessment continuing over the academic year.

The course combines theoretical understanding with practical application, challenging you to develop leadership, mentoring, coaching and reflective skills through work-based learning, research and implementation of positive change.

Upon completion, you will be equipped as an Advanced Practitioner ready to  apply for or progress within Higher Level Teaching Assisstant (HTLA) roles with confidence.

Through the course we will cover the following five units, utilising your experience and developing your knowledge further, to promote development of practice:
  • Enabling individuals to learn (level 4 / credit 4)
  • Understand how to support children and young people to improve their mental health and well being (level 4 / credit 4)
  • Working with others to support individuals with additional needs and disability in a school or college (level 4 /credit 4)
  • Working with families and other professionals in a school or college setting (level 4 / credit 4)
  • Implementing change in a school or college setting (level 4 /credit 5)
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include:
  • Direct observation by a Tutor / Teacher / Assessor within the workplace
  • Written assignments and professional discussion in line with the qualification criteria for each unit
  • Evidence portfolio: You will compile a comprehensive portfolio, showcasing evidence of your skills, knowledge and impact in the workplace.  This portfolio will draw on work-based learning amd research activites to demonstrate your progress and achievement.
The qualification will be graded, ‘Achieved’ or, ‘Not Yet Achieved’ and all the assessment criteria must be achieved for you to obtain the Certificate
Ensure you have access to:
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A laptop or computer for coursework and communication
To enrol on this course, you must:
  • Learners must be at least 18 years old 
  • Be  employed in a Level 3 role in school or college, as the course requires demonstration of  both competence and knowledge
  • Have prior Level 3 study or substantial experience working in educational settings
  • Be proficient in spoken and written English
