This qualification is the NVQ pathway only and is the level that the Electrotechnical Industry recognises learners as having achieved the competence required to carry out the role of a fully qualified electrician.  The pathway is designed for those people who have completed technical certificates such as City and Guilds 2365 Levels 2 and 3 or City and Guilds 2330 Levels 2 and 3 (only valid until 31 December 2017).

Progression and Centre Development for the electrotechnical industry to ensure you are up to date with BS7671 Wiring Regulations (2382).  Also further progression in completing your Inspection, Testing and Commissioning (2391).  Furthermore, if you are looking at going into design engineering you could progress to university.
Bridging Unit: Candidates should have successfully completed all of the City and Guilds 2365 assessments before attempting this assignment.  This assignment is intended for candidates who have demonstrated a suitable level of knowledge of electrical installation technology through successful completion of the City and Guilds 2365 Levels 2 and 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures), and wish to transfer this knowledge towards the City and Guilds 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrical Technology. Successful completion of this assignment, together with prior learning, will lead to successful competion of the City and Guilds 2357 units 301 to 309 (inclusive).
NVQ Induction; electronic portfolio induction; completion of the bridging unit, communicating with Site Assessor for site visits to be organised by you, the candidate.
The Bridging Unit will be assessed in two parts with a written question paper and professional discussion. This is where learning outcomes will be delivered to bring candidates in line with knowledge units of the City and Guilds 2357 Level 3, which is a requirement set by the Awarding Body.Site observations by the site assessor, who will evidence the candidates competency against the learning outcome criteria and candidates evidence uploaded to the electronic portfolio.Completion of performance units (NVQ), where one of the units is the AM2 – which will be assessed at an independent assessment centre that is accredited by the NET (National Electrotechnical Training Organisation).  The range of site activities to be asessed:
  • Containment 5: PVC/metal conduit; PVC/trunking cable tray
  • Wiring system: singles; PVC flat profile (T&E); FP200; SWA
  • Equipment: all the range – isolators and switches; socket outlets; DBs; CCUs; protective devices; lighting; a full range of control equipment
  • Full inspection, testing and commisioning to BS7671:2018 with the completed documentation
  • Fault diagnostics and rectification
Completion and certification of the following qualification or equivalents:
  • City and Guilds 2365 Levels 2 and 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations or City and Guilds 2330 Levels 2 and 3 (only valid until 31 December 2017)
  • You should be working within the Electrical industry with the work opportunities that will allow you to collect evidence that will cover the full range of criteria required. (Evidence required listed below in the “How will I be assessed information”.)
Access to the internet via any device, such as Smartphone, Tablet or Computer (laptop). This will enable you to upload evidence directly into your electronic portfolio, covering a full range of work activities and opportunities to ensure that you cover the full criteria within the qualification.
