This is a one-year, part-time course which offers a qualification for assessors who are assessing learners both in a college or training organisation and in the work environment. This course is based on a combination of three units:
Unit 301 – Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment.
This unit assesses a candidate assessor’s knowledge of the principles and practices of assessment in a learning and development context.
Unit 302 – Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment
This unit assesses a candidate assessor’s competence in assessing the occupational competence of others.
Unit 303 – Assessing Vocational Achievement
This unit assesses a candidate assessor’s competence in assessing a learner’s vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in contexts other than a work environment, for example in a simulated environment, in a workshop or classroom.
The course is offered to those practitioners involved in teaching and training in a variety of settings, including colleges and independent training organisations, whereby assessing learners as part of their professional role are expected to have achieved Level 3 Assessor status. This course is validated by the City and Guilds Awarding Body and is a nationally recognised qualification.
Achieving the L3 Assessor Certificate qualification, successful candidates are fully qualified to assess learners within their own vocational area and subject specialism, either within the organisation in which they work or as an independent assessor in industry or within the apprenticeship scheme.
