This is a one-year, part-time course which offers a qualification for assessors who are assessing learners in the work environment. This course is based on a combination of two units:

Unit 301 โ€“ Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment.
This unit assesses a candidate assessor’s knowledge of the principles and practices of assessment in a learning and development context.

Unit 302 โ€“ Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment
This unit assesses a candidate assessor’s competence in assessing the occupational competence of others.

The course is offered to those practitioners involved in teaching and training in a variety of settings, including colleges and independent training organisations, whereby assessing learners as part of their professional role are expected to have achieved Level 3 Assessor status. This course is validated by the City and Guilds Awarding Body and is a nationally recognised qualification.

Achieving the L3 Assessor Award qualification, successful candidates are fully qualified to assess learners within their own vocational area and subject specialism, either within the organisation in which they work or as an independent assessor in industry or within the apprenticeship scheme.

The main skills and techniques candidates will learn when covering the main topics are:Plan and deliver assessment opportunities for learners to demonstrate achievement of competence
  • Use a variety of assessment methods to support judgements on learner achievement
  • Develop skills of paper-based and e-portfolio building and sequencing of evidence
  • Develop communication and inter-personal skills
  • Develop an awareness of their professional role and responsibilities
The course is offered on an in-person, online or blended approach and assessment of work-related evidence is both formative, at regular training sessions, and summative on completion of each unit. Candidates will be expected to meet with the Assessor-Trainer at a mutually agreed date/time to review progress.

All applicants to attend an interview with the Assessor-Trainer either F2F, telephone or via Teams and complete a Pre-assessment form to confirm their ability to obtain the relevant portfolio evidence to fully cover the required criteria and achieve the Award.All applicants must provide evidence they have access to two learners in the work environment to assess. 
The course fee is ยฃ650.00 for the academic year 2022-2023There maybe an additional cost to register with HRG to gain DBS and compliance for the role of an assessor depending on circumstance.

  • Achieve the full certificate by completing Unit 303 โ€“ Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement
  • Progress onto the L4 Internal Quality Assurer Award
