The Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with and care for children from birth to five years and gain knowledge of children aged five to seven years.

Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators with a licence to practice.

You will be able to progress on to the Foundation Degree in Early Years or enter employment as a Practitioner with a licence to practice.
To gain this qualification, learners must achieve all 23 mandatory units.  Learners will attend face to face teaching sessions, providing underpinning knowledge for units within four themes including:Theme 1: Health & Well Being:
  • Support healthy lifestyles for children through the provision of food and nutrition
  • Promote healthy lifestyles for children through exercise
  • Support physical care routines for children
  • Promote children’s emotional well-being
  • Understand how to support children who are unwell
Theme 2: Legislation, Frameworks and Professional Practice
  • Understand legislation relating to the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children
  • Use legislation relating to the health and safety of children
  • Follow legislation relating to equality, diversity and inclusive practice
  • Working in partnership
Theme 3: Play, Development and Learning for School Readiness
  • Understand the value of play in early years
  • Plan, lead and review play opportunities which support children’s learning and development
  • Promote enabling play environments
  • Developing children’s emergent literacy skills
  • Developing children’s emergent mathematical skills
  • Support children’s transition to school
  • Develop children’s cognitive skills
  • Promote children’s speech, language and communication
  • Promoting children’s physical development
  • Promoting children’s personal. social and emotional development
  • Support children with additional needs
  • Use observation, assessment and planning to promote the development of children
  • Use longitudinal studies to observe, assess and plan for children’s needs
Theme 4: Professional Development
  • Engage in Professional Development
Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement, to show competence in both knowledge and skills.  The requirement is for learners to complete a minimum of 350 placement hours, whilst undertaking this qualification.  Placement opportunity must allow for skills application with babies and young children sufficient to meet the assessment criteria for the qualification.
You will be assigned your own personal Assessor who will support you with gathering evidence to support the assessment of your work.
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods.Knowledge based outcomes can be assessed using assessment tasks set on a weekly basis.Skills based outcoms must be achieved with reference to a ‘real’ work environment and must include direct observation within the workplace.
Our initial requirements are that learners will need to be working, volunteering or on a practical placement, as this is a mandatory part of the assessment process which involves evaluating skills in real working situations.Learners will need 350  placement hours with children aged 0-5yrs for the duration of the course.In conjunction with the placement requirement, learners will also need to evidence through interview, that they have relevant previous experience or prior knowledge to be offered a placeLearners will need to be able to use the spoken and written English language accuratelyLearners should also be aware of the GCSE and First Aid requirements as laid out in the EYFSThe part-time childcare course team will be happy to respond to any enquiries and can be contacted on 01992 411331 or email infochildcarept@hrc.ac.uk

The fee for this course is ยฃ2882.00If you are aged 19-23 you may also be entitled to free training if the course you choose is your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification. There are other fee waivers available dependent on individual circumstancesLearners may also be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable.
